Listening through my newly aquired album 4:48 by Aktiv Dödshjälp (Euthanasia). It's really good. Especially the song 4:48 of which the whole album is based on, a concept laid up by the British playwriter Sarah Kane who wrote a play about suicide called The 4:48 Psychosis. According to the play, 4:48 is the time when most suicides are commited. Unfortunately she never saw her play in action as she commited suicide one and a half year before it was first set up at a theatre. The album sets of in the last hours of the main character's life which the artwork really shows off well. The music goes from the child's first years of abuse and goes through the child's life into the teenages where it flees from it's perceptators but gets caught up with memories and the cold brutality of life, with no friends or anyone to use as a life-net. Eventually, it all leads to an inevitable end.
The album is extremely dark, the darkest I've heard this far, and I LOVE IT! The lyrics are the best and only good lyrics I've ever seen in Swedish. It really captures a dark, dark feeling and the ending is perfect. The album begins with the song Intro - Självrannsakan (Self-examination) and it sets the mood for the rest of the album (although the album is more extreme and the intro is soft). The mood is carried through the whole album and the only song I didn't think fit was Förruttnelse (Putrefaction), a rewritten version of Erik Johan Stagnelius' salute to death. It's a good song, but it doesn't fit with the rest lyrically as it's not about the lone child but holds another story.
This is the angriest band I've ever heard. All other similiar bands either seem to just fake it and don't mean what they say or bash about politics and praise communism. Aktiv Dödshjälp is the only band I've found who really seem to mean what they sing (ok... scream).
